Most of Wales will be switched on to the rugby on Friday evening. I have found in class that most members like to enjoy a takeaway or quick and easy meal with friends and family while watching the game. I have been asked for some ideas for quick and tasty meals that can be prepared during the day ready for serving at half time.
Two of the Slimtone favourites are on our new website and in our Lifestyle plan. The Chicken and Mushroom Curry or Chilli served with rice or jacket potato are both filling and easy to prepare. Also the recipe for Leek and Potato soup which is also on the site would be great with sliced hot French bread. Let me know if you have any ideas.

It really was emotional finishing our classes in the Dunraven Hotel after over thirty years. The first class at our new venue at Llysfaen was on Friday 19th February and was a great success. A lot of the residents joined the class and it was a great atmosphere. Special congratulations to Lisa who has now lost over five stone and to Eunice who has lost over three stone since September both following the Lifestyle Healthy Eating Plan. Everyone was really pleased for them and all agreed they look really great. It was good to see so many target members at the meeting and they all shared their ideas and favourite low calorie menus with all the new ladies.

Enjoy Pancake Day – The Slimtone Way

Lots of celebrations to look forward to shrove Tuesday on the 16th February.  Our Slimtone recipe fpr pancakes is another favourite and can be enjoyed as a tasty dessert at any time.

PANCAKES (basic recipe)   Makes 8-10 pancakes

4 oz plain flour                                 pinch of salt

½ pint skimmed milk                       low fat cooking spray

Lemon juice                                     1 medium size egg

Sieve flour and salt into bowl, add egg and half of the skimmed milk and beat to a smooth creamy batter.  Stir in the remaining milk.  Mist non-stick pan with cooking spray, pour in 2-3 tblspns of the batter mixture (enough to cover the base of the pan evenly) cook over a medium heat until golden brown, toss or turn and fry other side.  Keep warm between two plates over a pan of simmering water.  If using a 7” pan this mixture will make 10 pancakes @ 60 cals each.  If using 8-9” pan this mixture will make 8 pancakes @ 75 cals each.

Don’t forget your one calorie cooking spray and Jif lemon…

A squeeze of lemon juice with a sprinkling of sugar is all very nice, but lets get creative . . . .

Looking for a romantic meal to celebrate Valetine’s Day and also Chinese New Yer.

The Chicken & Mushroom Curry recommended inour Lifestyle Plan is one of our Slimtone recipes. If you are looking for a healthy eating meal for the romatic night in or to celebrate the Year of the Tiger I know you are going to enjoy the following.

Chicken & Mushroom Curry
Serves 4 – 140 cals per serving

450g (1lb) uncooked diced boneless chiken breast
2 tblspns curry paste
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tblspns curry powder
2 cloves garlic, crushed
336g (12oz) mushrooms, sliced
1 tblspn flour to thicken salt to season
3/4 pint stock made with chicken stock cube

In a non-stick pan, dry fry the chicken, onion, garlic and mushrooms for about 5 mins. Once the juices start to flow add the curry powder and paste. Stir well to ensure all the chicken and vegetables are coated with spices. Cook for 2-3 mins. Add the stock, bring to boil then turn down the heat, cover and simmer for 35045 mins (ensure chicken is cooked through). Mix the flour with a little water to form a paste and stir into the curry to thicken.  Cook for a further 4-5 mins until thick.

On a recent Slimtone visit to Champneys I was delighted to meet up with Robin Gargrave the Executive Director of YMCAfit in London who was the guest speaker that weekend. I first met Robin at a training course in Cardiff organised by the YMCA when he was the fitness instructer and it was great to meet up after all this time.

Also, there were two introductory classes of NIA (non impact aerobic) exercise classes which were great fun and really a great way to keep healthy. If you have any classes near you I would highly recommend them. If you would like to join us on one of our pampering weekends. Check out the website on – latest news.
Look forward to hearing from you.
