The weather has certainly turned colder this week and our Slimtone members all agree that a warming bowlful of soup is always welcome on a chilly winter’s night. Our Mexican Chilli Beef Stew from our popular Soup Book is the perfect hearty meal for the Bonfire Night celebrations and as a winter snack.
Serves 4 – Approx 100 calories per portion
125g/4½oz lean minced beef – 1 large onion, chopped
1 red pepper, diced- 1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 small tin red kidney beans ¾ pt beef stock
½ tsp chilli powder 1 clove garlic
Finely dice the onion, red pepper and garlic. Seal the beef over a medium heat and drain off any excess fat. Add onion, red pepper, and garlic and continue cooking until the meat is browned. Add the tomatoes, kidney beans and the stock. Season with salt and the chilli powder and mix thoroughly. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Allow to cool and liquidise or blitz with hand mixer to thicken. Enjoy with a slice of French bread.

Slim for Santa Week Two
Really hoped you enjoyed the ideas we gave last week and the Butternut Squash and Red Pepper soup recipe we recommended is a great comfort food for the cold evenings. It makes a great starter to a meal and certainly does help take the edge of your appetite. So many of our members have found the soup flasks available in most supermarkets are ideal for using in work and makes a warm and tasty addition to their sandwiches.
With only seven weeks to Christmas now is the time to get back to basics which will certainly help melt those pounds away.
** Don’t forget to complete your food diary every day and don’t skip meals as this will certainly lead to “picking” later in the day.
** Keep your kitchen scales on the work surface – this will remind you to have the portions recommended in the plan. All our members agree that this would be the advice they would give to all new members when joining Slimtone.
** Last but not least although the weather is getting colder it is so important to drink your water every day. So many of us think we are hungry and start raiding the ‘fridge when our body is crying out for a glass of water!!! See page 66 and 67 for all the advantages this will have for you and I know you will soon get back into the good habit of having it every day. Add a slice of lemon, lime or orange it certainly makes a difference to the flavour.

**The Mushroom and Ham Tagliatelle recipe on page 34 of your Lifestyle plan is really popular with so many of our Slimtone members. Philadelphia have launched a new smoked ham light cream cheese which I used in this recipe to make the sauce. It was really tasty and thought this would make a great convenient quick meal.
**Muller have just introduced an orange flavour to their chocolate desserts and we have had a great idea with this product from one of our members in Maesteg. Pop in the bottom of micro dish and top with the steam pudding recipe on page 57 of your Lifestyle Plan. Cook in micro as directed and you will have a fab marbled effect on this tasty sweet dessert which will be popular with all the family.
** Looking for a quick Pumpkin soup recipe for Halloween. Our Butternut Squash and Red Pepper soup is ideal and is one of the class favourites. Pop 1 sliced onion, 1 deseeded red pepper, 2 sweet red peppers, 1 cleaned and chopped butternut squash, and 2 stock cubes into a large saucepan. Add water to cover vegetables and simmer until cooked, blitz with blender and serve garnished with parsley.
We are all aware there is only 8 weeks to go to all the Christmas festivities and the good news is there is still time to lose a stone to get into that special outfit. Diane in our Maesteg class has recently got to target and looking fab after losing 19 pounds in only 9 weeks and has shown that the secret of success is following the Lifestyle Plan. During the next eight weeks class members can look forward to a NEW 7 day planner with lots of ideas and recipes. Also, the weekly talks will provide all the motivation to lose those extra pounds and inches. Congratulations to everyone who lost weight during out Slim for Summer competition. We had tremendous weight losses in the classes and pleased to say Briony from our Sainsburys class was the overall winner and she was delighted with her prize of a Champneys gift bag. Have a good Bank Holiday and although no class on Monday in Ogmore
we will be pleased to see you in all venues the rest of the week.
Congratulations to Leah Rossiter who is the Slimmer of the Week at our class in the Non Pol Ogmore Vale. Also, thrilled that she has had a honors degree and is now a Batchelor of Economics and Social Studies together with a BPA for Psychology and Criminology. While at her final year studying at university Leah came to class when possible while following her Slimtone healthy eating plan .During this time losing a total of over 20 pounds and is only three pounds off her ideal weight. Just to let you know Leah everyone at Slimtone is so proud of you.
